Tile Wall

wall_of_tiles2

The first 62 tiles in a wonderful array of ideas are already in place at the entrance to the property, and there are steel-reinforced footings in place for the next two walls. There’s a lot of excitement about the project now that the wall is up – it’s easy to order a tile. Click Here for Signup Sheet. Once we have commitments for 50 more tiles, we’ll do another installation. We hope to fill the first wall in the next six months.

Buying a tile

Your participation in the Wall of Tiles project will bring our new Education Resource Center closer to reality. Tiles are 6″ x 6″ and cost $125 each. You can buy an individual tile, or multiple tiles to have a larger design or portrait, e.g., two 6″ x 6″ tiles to form a 6 x 12″ design, or four 6″ x 6″ tiles to form a 12″ x 12″ picture. Our 501(c)3 status makes your purchase in large part, tax-deductible.

Call us (Malcolm Coon at 775-1824 or Judy McCarter at 378-5566) and we will help with the selection of a good image or with the configuration if you’d like more than one tile, and if you need help with the design.

Deciding what to put on your tile can be a problem, but we have lots of ways we can help you.

We will be scheduling a new series of art classes soon. The first two classes gave people – kids, parents and grandparents – lots of ideas for their tiles and artists help them to execute. Plus, there’s a great idea book – and many tile ideas on this website – to help you on your way.

Your tile can have any image you want: family photo, child’s drawing, etc….we will help you find a photo, prepare your image, add text…whatever you want to do to personalize your tile.

You should provide the art for your tile either as a high-resolution jpg or pdf file, or you can provide a hard copy of a photograph or drawing.

To keep your work as close as possible to its original format, your art must be in a square format, as rectangular images will need to be cropped to fit a square and this may cost you valuable details. Or, we can put a color frame around the image to fit it in the square tile, but this will make your image smaller.

It doesn’t matter the size of your square – the image can be enlarged or reduced in size. If you send an electronic image that needs to be enlarged, it should be as high resolution as possible, but a minimum of 300 dpi (dots per inch is the standard measurement of resolution) to enlarge well. A lower-resolution image will lose quality with enlargement.

There’s lots of help for the asking…

Two artists have committed their time and expertise for the tile design classes for tile design on the clubhouse grounds to help everyone from kids to nonagenarians come up with ideas and designs for their tiles.

Board member Kathy Holcomb and neighbor Sylvia St Jean, both accomplished artists, will be on hand again at tables set up at the clubhouse. We’ll have art paper, brushes, crayons, markers and invaluable artistic advice for your tile. Malcolm Coon and Judy McCarter will offer Photoshop expertise and have a scanner available so you can see how your finished product will look.

Please feel free to call Judy McCarter at 378-5566 or Malcolm Coon at 775-1824, for advice or help with your tile.
