Help Support the building of our new Dreamhill Estates Education Resource Center by giving during the The Valero Texas Open, Birdies for Charity fundraising event. Every dollar marked for DEERC, goes to DEERC. Plus, if we raise $1,000 or more we get a 7% bonus!
Please ask your friends and family to help by forwarding them the link below. You can make a pledge amount for each birdie made – and no one knows exactly how many there will be, which adds to the interest during the tournament. Or, you can make a fixed amount pledge.
Please get involved. It’s for a great cause – the building will be our center point for our many events during the year, for educational events and classes, board meetings and parties, as well the book club, cooking classes and other groups we’ve been talking about for years – all the wonderful forms of intergenerational activity that make this neighborhood so special.
It’s Time to Bet on a Birdie!
The Valero Texas Open, Birdies for Charity fundraising opportunity is something new for the neighborhood. Every
dollar marked for DEERC, goes to DEERC. Plus, if we raise $1,000 or more we get a 7% bonus!
How it Works –
• In golf, “par” is the normal expected score on any given hole. Every one of the 18 holes on a golf course has its
own “par” assigned to it. A Birdie is one stroke under par for a hole.
• The idea is that we ask friends and family to join the fun of a
charity event and pledge an amount for each birdie made – and no
one knows exactly how many there will be, which adds to the
interest during the tournament.
• There are usually about 1,600 to 2,000 Birdies made each year at
the tournament:
o 2013 – 1,640 birdies
o 2014 – 1,784 birdies
o 2015 – 2,103 birdies
o 2016 – 1,834 birdies
o 2017 – 1,975 birdies
• The 2017 Valero Texas Open had 1,975 birdies made, so a pledge of one penny ($0.01) yielded a
donation of $19.75, and 10 cents per Birdie a total of $197.50, and your generous friends and contacts, a dollar
per Birdie would net us $2,000!
• You can start right now! It’s a fun way to have a personal stake in the Texas Open – even if you don’t play golf!
• And if you come to the tournament, as a donor, you get entered into a drawing to earn your charity a $20,000
donation in your honor. Each day attended earns additional entries into the drawing.
• For those who don’t like the uncertainty, pledging a set amount is great too, and counts toward the prizes
available for charities.
• Just complete the form (which we’ll be distributing soon) and get it back to us. We’ll also be distributing forms
at the Ladies Coffees, Cowboy Breakfast and the Easter Egg Hunt.
